Our Favorite Oyster Recipes to Cook Up this Holiday Season
The holiday season is finally upon us! There is no better way to celebrate than with delicious food. Cook up these tasty dishes with family and friends to commemorate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, or any other festivity. We’ve rounded up our favorite fried, broiled, and grilled oyster recipes, including a personal Sanctuary Oysters recipe below.
Linguini with Fried Oysters
One of our favorite ways to enjoy oysters is over pasta! It might seem like an odd combination, but it is pure deliciousness. Try preparing this Linguini with Fried Oysters for any small gathering and have your family be impressed. All you need is the following ingredients:
Ingredients for pasta:
10 cloves of garlic, 2 minced and 8 thinly sliced
½ cup of coarse breadcrumbs
Zest from 2 lemons
2 teaspoons anchovy paste
¼ cup white wine
¼ cup olive oil plus extra for cooking as needed
16 ounces linguini or spaghetti
½ cup parsley, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Salt and pepper as needed
Ingredients for fried oysters:
6 to 8 cups canola or avocado oil for frying
¾ cup dry breadcrumbs (such as Panko)
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons dry Italian seasoning
30 medium or large Sanctuary Oysters, shucked
Directions:
1. Pasta preparation: Bring a large pot of generously salted water to boil. Cook pasta in boiling water until al dente. Before draining the pasta, reserve 2 cups of pasta water and set aside. Strain pasta and shock with cool water to stop cooking. Set strained pasta aside.
2. Pasta topping preparation: In a medium frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high. Add breadcrumbs and minced garlic and cook, stirring until crumbs are golden. Remove from heat, add the lemon zest, and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
3. Oyster preparation: In a deep saucepan, preheat oil for frying to 370 °F. Meanwhile, combine breadcrumbs, flour, salt, and dried Italian seasoning in a shallow dish. Dredge oysters in the flour mixture, then fry until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Set aside on paper towels and keep warm in a 170 °F oven.
4. Pasta preparation: In a large pot or Dutch oven heat ¼ cup olive oil over medium heat. Add the 8 cloves of thinly sliced garlic and cook, frequently stirring until lightly golden on the edges. Add anchovy paste and stir until dissolved. Add the wine and simmer until nearly evaporated. Add your cooked pasta to the pot along with 1 cup of the reserved pasta liquid and toss until the pasta is coated with the . If needed, you can add more of the pasta water as needed.
5. Putting it all together: Remove from the heat and add parsley and butter, stirring until the butter is melted. Sprinkle half the breadcrumb mixture and toss to combine. Then transfer pasta to a serving platter and top with fried oysters. Add a sprinkle of breadcrumbs and red pepper flakes. Enjoy!
