Why do Oysters Need a Vacation?

Summertime and the livin’s easy! It’s just about time for our oysters to take their yearly vacation. At Sanctuary Oysters, we provide our customers with the very best tasting, most sustainable and highest quality Pacific oysters in the world. We believe everyone needs a little break, from our oysters to our committed staff, to de-stress so we make the bold choice to pause production in the warm summer months for quality control.

Why do oysters need a vacation? The naturally warmer water temperatures of the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve in the late summer months creates the best conditions for oysters to reproduce. The combination of spawning and warmer waters puts a lot of stress on the oysters as they are utilizing most of their energy to reproduce and to maintain survival needed to grow. At Sanctuary Oysters, we care deeply about our oysters’ wellbeing. That’s why we make the bold decision to stop production rather than possibly harm our little gems during the process.

Just as our oysters receive time off, so does our hard-working team. We care deeply about the land, the oysters and our workforce so pausing production during this time is the best recipe for success. Our team is the backbone of our operation, and they deserve quality time with their family and the ability to focus on their health and wellness just as much as our oysters do.

Sanctuary Oysters’ sustainable production methods follow the lead of the environment and seasonal changes for us to create the best quality oysters for all to enjoy.

Don’t worry, our oysters will be back before you know it and we promise are well worth the wait! In the meantime, if you have any questions about our pause in production, please feel free to contact us at info@solazul.com.mx.
