October Events Recap | Santa Monica Seafood’s Port to Plate Product Showcase & the DTLA Oyster Festival
In case you missed it, last month Sanctuary Oysters went up the coast to dive into the Santa Monica Seafood’s annual Port to Plate Product Showcase and the 2019 DTLA Oyster Festival. Our team was excited to share our full-flavored oysters with seafood lovers across Southern California. And with back-to-back events, you could say our oysters had a bit of traveling to do!
At the beginning of the month, we made the trip up to world famous Tuna Wharf Way Pier in San Diego for the annual Port to Plate Product Showcase. This product showcase is hosted by Santa Monica Seafood—the largest seafood distributor in the Southwest. For 80 years Santa Monica Seafood has committed to a sustainable seafood industry, which is very important to our team. At the event, invited guests had the opportunity to see and taste local and sustainable products, including our oysters! Throughout the day, guests enjoyed live music, fantastic scenery and fresh Sanctuary Oysters, with the option to top them with tangy hot sauce or a classic mignonette.
Next on the docket was the DTLA Oyster Festival, an annual two-day festival held in the Grand Central Market. The event was started in 2015 by the owner of The Oyster Gourmet, Christophe Happillon, to celebrate “all-things-oyster.” Oyster farmers across coasts—from British Columbia to New Jersey—came together for a weekend of shucking and tastings. Nearby, The Oyster Gourmet offered a curated selection of French wines for visitors to pair with all the vendors’ specialty oyster dishes. Throughout the weekend, our team shucked around 2,000 oysters for new and seasoned oyster lovers alike.
